Swap Shop Community Celebration June 8th

It’s been six busy years since the first community gathering of the Sunnyside Swap Shop Co-op where a half dozen people stood around inside an un-March April 2008-06renovated set of church building classrooms at the corner of 35th and SE Yamhill and agreed to be the advisory board to a dream – it was a dream to share community space, books, toys, clothing, and the ups and downs of parenting.
On Saturday, June 8th, from 3pm until the custodians beg us to go home so they can clean up and get some sleep, we will be celebrating what has happened from then to now and ignite some dreams for the future . . . a future where something truly grand is always at least a little bit possible so long as we decide to do something for everyone that is just too hard to do alone.
Whether you’ve yet to ever step foot inside the spaces our swap shop members already enjoy or have already treated the gathering spaces and play areas of Sunnyside Methodist Church as your second home for many years, you can have a wonderful time and support what’s wonderful about community by funding a $20 entry ticket (or two or three or more) for some or all of the following activities throughout the afternoon and evening . . .
The Story for VBC-33
2-3 pm – An Hour for the Hours – gathering of our past, current and future leadership of the Sunnyside Swap Shop Co-op in our great room for a farewell ceremony for Karen Hery, our co-op founder, and welcoming of the new swap shop director, Ellen Zientek.
3-4:30 – Shine Chorus Award Ceremony – Everyone is invited to enjoy the beautiful voices of the Shine Chorus singing Glee style musical numbers between special moments of recognition of the people and organizations that have made the renovation of the building and the building up of the Sunnyside Swap Shop possible.
5 – 6 – Roost Family Night Dinner – Our last chance to enjoy a Friday family night dinner together on the well loved couches and at the well used craft tables of this after school teen gathering spot.  All you can eat home cooked food included in your entry donation.  Gluten free and vegetarian options will be available.  Menu: Malati’s amazing curry chicken and vegetarian stir fry over rice with tasty sweet treats from the Portland Culinary Institute.
6-8 (or maybe even later) – Gym Time  Party – a celebration of all our great memories in the gym rollerskating, hula hoops and dance music on the gym floor and more lounging around in The Roost.
March April 2008-26Trade a twenty dollar bill for our twenty dollar “bills” as you come in the door- each bill gets in one adult (with or without a child).  Two twenties gets your whole family in no matter how many of you there are.  You are welcome to give more if you are able or less if you need to to help make ends meet.   Your company is what matters to us most so please don’t let money be a barrier to coming out and enjoy community with us.
Proceeds will be split between paying back the renovations that started The Roost and paying forward on a relocation fund for the swap shop.
Members of our community will be out and about in community with twenty dollar bills to trade.
Tickets also available at the door: top of the steps on the Yamhill Street side of Sunnyside Mfall 2009-48 (Medium) ethodist church building just up from the corner of 35th and Yamhill.
Come for the whole shebang or just for the choir and awards ceremony early in the afternoon, only for dinner or just to run around the gym later at night.  Partake in the festivities as you are able and, in what ever way suits you best, take away some sweet memories of beautiful songs, great food and good company.
Aren’t able to come but want to support great places for community to gather?  Checks made out to Sunnyside Swap Shop earmarked for the community celebration mailed to:
Sunnyside Swap Shop Co-op
3520 SE Yamhill Street
Portland, OR  97214
will be graciously acknowledged with a donation letter for tax purposes.
Hope to see you there!
