Coming to an Open House or Play Pass event is one of the easiest ways to experience first hand what the Sunnyside Swap Shop Co-op is all about. The meet ups listed below happen every week, some, like music time, all year round, others, like sensory play, just during certain seasons. A selection of our regular member meet ups are open to first time visitors with a swap shop host available to show you around so you can see our space, join in the fun and discover how becoming an ongoing member of the swap shop could make sense for you. At the days and times listed below, come to the stone steps entrance to our space and ring the doorbell to gain entry.

Ellen’s Open House: Saturday, June 1 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm.

The swap shop’s new director, Ellen Zientek, is hosting a special open house to introduce the co-op to her network of friends and families. Please stop by too if you’re in the neighborhood, as well! For Facebook users, an event for the June 1 open house has been created on Swap Shop Facebook page (linked here). Ellen would be very grateful to anyone who has a moment to “Like” the Swap Shop’s Facebook page and share the event link the next time you’re surfing Facebook.

Can’t wait for a play pass date or open house? Ready to see the Swap Shop today or first thing tomorrow morning? Our members are always willing to say hello and show you around a bit. So, if you are willing to take your chances that someone will be inside to let you in (especially for an event listed below on a different week) please come on over, ring the swap shop door bell and see who answers. Best bet is weekday mornings 10 to noon. Our space is open to members 8am -8pm Monday – Saturday.

Here is a listing of all our regular meet ups great for scheduling your first visit around.  Please call or email first if you would like us to to be able to meet and greet you on your first day of play . . .


Free Play Some of our play pass times and dates are during our regular hours of open free play.  Come on in and use the space as our members do.  Make your own fort, put on your own puppet show on our dress up stage, explore, read and relax.
Open Gym Time  Sunnyside Methodist Church building has a full court basketball gym on the top floor which we use twice a week in the fall, winter and spring for free-form gross-motor play. Your child can explore hippity hops, ball play, jump ropes, tumbling mats, scoot bikes and ride on toys of all shapes and sizes. A great place to hoop and holler and run off big energy. Monday morning gym times 9:30-11:30 are focused on infants and toddlers and available to older kids out of school. Friday afternoon gym times 3-5 are focused on elementary age children with all ages welcome.

Music Time Talented Music Therapists from Earth Tones Music bring musical knowledge to parents and joy to kids of all ages every Tuesday morning 10:00-11:00. Children sit in parent’s laps singing songs, clapping along, playing with musical instruments, dancing with scarves and more.   Class is designed for sitting up babies and active toddlers.  All ages welcome.

Craft Time Our well stocked arts and crafts room is a creativity paradise for the youngest tactile explorer to the most sophisticated painter and builder all year long. Craft times are instructor led hours in the craft room every Wednesday afternoon 3:30-4:30 where special craft ideas are offered up (painting projects, pottery classes, jewelery making, simple sewing, stamping, etc) and a little extra help is offered to find just the right color or texture of material or technique. Enjoyed as much by adults as by the kids!

Family Yoga  Thursday mornings 10-10:30, this co-op gathering is lead by an experienced pre-natal, post natal yoga instructor who understands that family yoga is a catch it while you can phenomenon.  She loves that you aren’t paying directly for this meet up but enjoying it on the days that your child is ready and willing and then staying on to play on in the main space

Open House Plenty of time to tour the Swap Shop indoor and outdoor space, upstairs gym and Roost family night space. You can stay and play and fill out joining paperwork to become a member right away or take paperwork home to bring back another day.  Open house are held at the beginning of the fall, winter and spring seasons.

Backyard Sensory Play  Our back yard is available any time the weather allows for outdoor play. During the months of July and August we take our Monday morning meet up outdoors to host special events in the cool morning hours exploring water play, the rock pit, bubbles and more.  10-noon.
