Cure for ‘buy-new disease’

[...]Daphne Weaver shopped for back-to-school clothes not at a mall but in the Sunnyside Environmental School cafeteria. Nothing sparkled like new. But plenty of perfectly good, gently used shirts, pants, jackets and shoes were sorted by size.

The annual back-to-school swap, hosted by the Sunnyside Swap Shop Co-op in Southeast Portland, took place last week. No cash needed. People brought clothes they didn’t want and took items they did, judging for themselves whether it was a fair swap.[…]
