Our children bring out the best in us and also take us to the outer limits of our patience and physical stamina. At the end of a long day, long month or long year, who takes care of the big people who are taking care of the little people?
Our neighborhood massage therapist (and co-op member) Dana Buhl and neighborhood physical therapist (and toddler parent) Israel Sostrin bring self care to a higher level for all of us.
In today’s economy, money is tight and time is tight too but, since we age right along with our kids, we can’t just keep going and going like college students cramming for exams. If our insurance companies get tight on approvals for massage and physical therapy (or our insurance companies are non-existent), one of the best investments we can make in ourselves is putting our bodies in the hands of well trained and caring professionals.
The money we pay out of our own pockets can be money very well spent especially if we know what to ask for to help make the best of our time and our financial investment in our care.
It’s very common for Dana and Israel to see a client just 3 or 4 times and be able to make a big difference in their lives. Dana with her knowledge of and Israel, with his specialized training in the to improve physical movement, have a lot to offer post partum moms and all of us moms and dads with sports, work and parenting injuries that don’t bounce back like they used to.
Some well spent time and money before the big collapse of what ever part of each of us is slowly or quickly going over the edge, can save a lot of down time and limit the chances of even bigger chunks of money coming out of our deductibles or our savings.
So when do you need soothing massage and when do you need a physical therapist? Dana has referred many people, including herself, to Israel and Israel feels fortunate to be part of the on Hawthorne with six practitioners of a whole variety of modalities including and Ontological .
It may sound corny to say you will be in good hands with any of these great practitioners but it’s true. Much as our bodies would love well trained attention every week, most of our budgets won’t allow such a luxury even in the times when it feels like a necessity. Israel and Dana have helped many clients find good “homework” – things to do on your own between massage and physical therapy sessions that help you get even more of your money’s worth out of their work to help prolong the positive effects of that new and improved you.
One of the very best gifts we can give our children is to make it a priority for them to see how well we take care of ourselves. Parenting takes strength and flexibility and endurance, the three things that massage and physical therapy help restore and improve.
Both Israel and Dana are putting their wonderful services into our Autumnfest silent auction on Saturday, August 23rd. You can bid on an introductory physical therapy session with Israel Sostrin (a $125 value) or a relaxing massage session with Dana Buhl (a $65 value) and the money you spend will go towards improving our structure while you improve yours.
You don’t have to wait until the end of October to treat your body to the kind of care it needs most. Dana will be raising her massage rates in November but is willing to grandfather in anyone who sees her now at her current rates for the rest of the year. Israel can provide his services under different categories of care for cash patients to help reduce the cost of seeing him.
Don’t be shy about asking for what you need. If my life is any example, you will find that, when you ask, what you want most lies just around the corner ready to welcome you into a better place and space.
With all my best wishes to all of you for a healthy and happy fall and with gratitude to Dana and Israel and all our Roost business sponsors.
