: The site for the Sunnyside Swap Shop Co-op was specifically selected to be close to this K-8th grade Portland Public School that focuses on the environment using a holistic, integrated curriculum. Several of our events are integrated into the school’s curriculum to help support the students’ and families’ efforts towards the reduce, reuse and recycle model of resource stewardship.
The Swap Shop’s Back-to-School Exchange in the fall, and the weekend-long Useful Goods Exchange in the spring were started as Sunnyside Environmental School Events.
K-2nd grade students take several field trips each year to the Swap Shop swapping books and toys while learning about the environmental impact of the manufacturing, packaging and shipping of new toys to market.
